The LED strips can be uncoated (not waterproof), splash-proof or fully waterproof. With this series of waterproof LED lights, you can mount the tape almost anywhere - in bathrooms and kitchens, outside or anywhere that needs to be waterproof.
This passage is going to talk about the following introductions of waterproof LED strip light:
1) Advantages of LED strip light
2) Features of waterproof LED strip lights
3) Factors need to consider when choosing LEDs
LED lights use 75% less energy than incandescent lights and last 25 times longer than incandescent lights. They have become the most popular way to decorate businesses, homes and vacation parties.
The best part about LED lights is that they can be used both indoors and outdoors if you purchase the right type. LED strip lighting not only makes a building look better, but it can also add extra security to your business or home.
When it comes to the most suitable environment, LED lights fall into three main categories. They are classified as non-weatherproof, weatherproof and waterproof.
Non-weatherproof LED lights can only be used indoors. Weatherproof LED lights can be used outdoors, while waterproof LED lights are mainly used to illuminate pools and other areas near water.
When planning to install LED strips, attention needs to be paid to the protection rating (IP). the IP rating measures the amount of water and solids that the LED light can handle before complications arise.
If you plan to install strip lighting outdoors, you will need LED strip lights with a higher IP rating.
Length
One of the biggest hurdles in installing LED strips is figuring out the required length. When measuring the space that you want to illuminate, be sure to take into account the corners to wrap around, as well as any gaps or elevation changes in the path to be illuminated. It is important to know the exact length you need, as each LED strip has a maximum number of strips that can be powered continuously without voltage drop. If this length is exceeded, the LED strips will not be as bright at the end.
After measuring the total length to be lit, correlate the length with the maximum travel of the LED strip. Higher voltage strips have a higher maximum travel.
You may need more strips than the maximum number of runs allows. In this case, all you need to do is connect the extra strips to the original power supply instead of the strips you previously installed.
It is also possible to use an amplifier instead of running the strip circuit back to the power supply each time. In this case, use an amplifier to connect the end of each strip light run to the beginning of the next run to avoid voltage drops.
Voltage and Power Supply
When selecting a power supply, please know that its voltage must match the voltage of the strip light you plan to use. Strip lights are primarily 12 or 24 volts.
You also need to pay attention to the power supply and the power of the strip light. The power of the strip light should be at least 20% less than the power rating of the power supply.
If this confuses you, rest assured that you are not alone. Fortunately, you can use a simple formula to find the required power supply wattage.
First, find the number of watts per foot consumed by the strip lighting. Multiply that number by the length of the strip lighting (in feet).
Once you get that number, multiply it by 1.2. The resulting number will tell you the minimum size power supply you need to run all your plugs.
Color and Brightness
Once you understand the technical elements of installing LED strips, you can finally focus on the fun stuff. When it comes to LED lighting, there are many colors and brightness levels to choose from.
You can choose one color, a mix of several colors for your strip lights, or you can purchase LED strips that can change colors. Color changing strips are great for conveying different moods and come with wireless remote control that you can use to control the colors.
If you don't like colored LED strips, then you can also consider using different shades of white. The lower the lumens, the warmer the white LEDs look.
Warmer, softer whites give off more yellow shades. Cooler whites will give you brighter, starker shades of white.
Usually, the brighter the LED, the higher quality it will be. However, you may not always want your business or home to give off the brightest light.
If you want to change the brightness of the LED strip frequently, you can connect the strip lighting cable to a dimmer. Connect the output wire from the power supply to the dimmer, and then connect the dimmer to the input wire of the strip.
